When Mark and Diane Howson took over the running of the village shop in 2014, they did so with the intention of not only ensuring the continuation of a facility that has existed for more than a century, but also to make it relevant to the needs of the local residents in the 21st Century. To this end, the shop is undergoing a gradual evolution to meet current tastes and demands, but without losing its character. great-easton49-%ef%80%a711-2014-%ef%80%a7-img_0053-%ef%80%a7-andymurdock2014-version-2

A large area of focus is on fresh and local produce with an increasing range of products, but you can still pop in for a tin of beans or a bag of pasta as a core grocery selection is also stocked. A number of customers already place orders for fresh products in advance which can even be delivered.

Fruit, Veg and Milk – are delivered five days a week directly from Leicester market, meaning pretty much anything that is in season can be obtained.

Meat comes from South Kilworth’s Joseph Morris Butchers- recently awarded membership of the prestigious Q Guild of Butchers, with deliveries on Tuesdays and Fridays ( order Monday and Thursday) with the added bonus that the animals that ultimately supply the meat are raised in the Welland Valley.

Frozen Meals – from Clarkes of Queniborough – as seen in Countryside La Vie ( you can pick up a free copy form the shop).

Bread – comes daily from Wesses of Market Harborough, as well as a delicious array of cakes.

Beers and Wines – are locally sourced, with ales from both the established Langton and New Market Harborough breweries and the wine selection comes via Duncan Murray Wines of Market Harborough.

Cheese – arrives weekly from specialist suppliers featuring a range of British and European cheeses.

Time – if you haven’t got any, freshly prepared rolls, both hot and cold can be purchased and the “Food To Go” range is to be expanded in the coming months.

On top of all this newspapers, magazines, sweets, hot and cold drinks, greeting cards and gifts for all occasions are available.

As for the bijou post office !  – In addition to the usual postal services, banking facilities so you can pay in and withdraw money from the majority of current accounts, also offered is Foreign Currency. Euros are normally in stock for those European trips and other currencies can be ordered for next day collection.

The shop is also the ‘de facto’ box office for local shows and promotions, as well as a great source of information on what is happening locally and for local services and trades.

Any suggestions for new products, ranges or facilities are gratefully received either by popping in, email or via the Facebook page.
